(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet
by Freddie Gorman and Bradley Hamilton
This song was originally recorded by the Detroit band, The Reflections, in 1964. It reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100™. The backing band includes some famed Motown studio musicians.
We (Jim Stringer & the AM Band) recorded this track for inclusion on our 2008 release, "Triskaidekaphilia". Because of the name, meaning "love of the number 13, it seemed inappropriate to include this track which would have been track 14. So, it was archived.
I finished the track by adding an organ track, harmony vocals, and some hand claps, in tribute the the production style of the original. On the other hand, this version is more in line with tracks such as those of later 60s offerings by The Beau Brummels, The Turtles, The Syndicate of Sound, The Kingsmen or other garage-esque, "post-beatlemnia" bands.
